歌川国貞初代（豊国三代、1786〜1865年）による1835年（天保6年）の連作「梅初春五十三駅」より真ん中の一枚。東海道五十三次の宿場を舞台に歌舞伎役者を描いた人気シリーズで、旅情と芝居絵が融合した江戸らしい趣のある一枚です。

Centre sheet from the series “Ume no Haru Gojūsan-tsugi” (Plum Blossoms of Spring: Fifty-three Stages, 1835) by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III, 1786–1865). This popular series depicted kabuki actors set against the fifty-three post stations of the Tōkaidō road, combining travelogue romanticism with theatrical portraiture in classic Edo style.
