月岡芳年（1839〜1892年）の傑作シリーズ「東京自慢十二ヶ月」より。明治期の東京に生きる洗練された美女たちを、各月の風物や習慣とともに描いた全12枚の連作です。芳年晩年の円熟した画風が随所に見られ、西洋の影響を受けながらも日本の美意識を追求した貴重な作品群です。
Series Information
From the celebrated series “Tokyo Jiman Juni-kagetsu” (Twelve Months of Tokyo Pride) by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892). This series depicts elegant beauties of Meiji-era Tokyo set against the customs and scenery of each month. Created in Yoshitoshi’s mature period, the prints blend Western influences with traditional Japanese aesthetics, making them among the most sought-after of his works.
