月岡芳年（1839〜1892年）の連作「近世人物誌」より、近衛家の老女・村岡を描いた一枚です。芳年は幕末・明治期を代表する浮世絵師であり、「最後の浮世絵師」とも称されます。本作品は、実在の人物を描いた人物誌シリーズの一作で、格調ある筆致と細やかな人物表現が特徴です。

From the series “Kinsei Jinbutsushi” (Records of Modern Persons) by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892). This print depicts Muraoka, a senior lady-in-waiting of the Konoe family. Yoshitoshi, regarded as the “last great ukiyo-e master,” is celebrated for his dynamic compositions and emotional depth. A rare and significant piece from this distinguished series.
